From Wikipedia when you search "Memorial Day": "On May 5, 1868, General John A. Logan issued a proclamation calling for "Decoration Day" to be observed annually and nationwide; he was commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), an organization of and for Union Civil War veterans founded in Decatur, Illinois." Decoration Day or Memorial Day has long been set aside for the observance of the brave men and women who have died fighting to keep America free. On the very first Decoration Day, President James Garfield gave a speech at the Arlington National Cemetary and 20,000 graves were decorated. Not long after World War I, the holiday began to incorporate the dead of subsequent wars and eventually became known as Memorial Day. The number of military deaths of all the wars this nation has fought is more than 1.1 million. We bow our heads in prayer on Memorial Day to gratefully acknowledge those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. But are we fully free? Since that infamous day in 1973, when the U.S. Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision came down, more than 50 million abortions have been performed. We say "more than", because while the 50 million statistic is based on numbers provided by the Guttmacher Institute, there is an unknown number of abortions which haven't been tracked. With the easy availability of at-home abortion "services" which use pills, there is now no way of knowing how many more lives are lost each year. Our brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom gave that sacrifice for all Americans, born and unborn. What nation is fully free that sacrifices it's children on the alter of pleasure and convenience? As you remember our fallen soldiers this Memorial Day, please also say a prayer for those we don't honor, whose battle for life ended in the womb. Please say a prayer of repentance for this nation's sins of pride and arrogance that are leading us away from God's divine protection and blessings. Our Lord always holds out His grace and loving forgiveness to those who have aborted their children as well as those who have begun wars. Sin is a missing of the goal of His will for us, no matter what sin we are guilty of. May He soften hardened hearts before it's too late. "[Pregnancy] is an episodic, moderately extended, chronic condition ... May be defined as an illness ... treated by evacuation of the uterine contents."~Warren Hern, M.D. "Is Pregnancy Really Normal?" Alan Guttmacher Institute's Family Planning Perspectives, January 1971, page 9.
