We've recently had some of our friends ask why the "A" word is so front and center on our aspire-together.org website. Yes, there it is, right under Pregnancy Options - what were we thinking?!?
What we were thinking is this: most of our target audience search on Google for answers to just about any question they might have. Take "abortion pill" or "abortion", for example. Go ahead, type it in to your phone or other computer. What comes up as search results are driven by, among other things, algorhythms and paid ads. Depending on which day you search, Planned Parenthood may come up as the number one search result. And their result looks like this: "Abortion Information | Information About Your Optionswww.plannedparenthood.org › learn › abortion There are two ways of ending a pregnancy: in-clinic abortion and the abortion pill. ... View nearby Planned Parenthood health centers that provide abortion care and get the information you need to schedule an appointment. ... In-clinic abortions are safe, simple medical procedures provided ..." Do you see how the "A" word is in bold font? Did you count how many times it was used? That drives the search result! They use that word many times, earning them the top of the search results list. We are in a time when we have to fight not only to get the truth out, but to even get a chance to be able to get the truth out! If you click on the "Abortion" box on our client website, you will see that we stress the importance of getting the possible pregnancy confirmed, dated correctly and that the potential client understand the different procedures completely before jumping in to make a hasty decision. Contrast our website with Planned Parenthood's slick presentation of how "safe and simple" abortion can be. They mimic our Options Counseling with their own and of course, don't miss an opportunity to take a pot shot at pregnancy resource clinics by stating: "Other family planning centers and private doctors may also talk with you about your decision. But be careful when looking for a reliable health center, because there are fake clinics out there that claim to offer information about pregnancy options and abortion. They’re called Crisis Pregnancy Centers, and they’re run by people who don’t believe in giving you honest facts about abortion, pregnancy, and birth control. Crisis pregnancy centers are often located very close to Planned Parenthood health centers or other real medical centers, and have similar names — they do this to confuse people and trick them into visiting them instead." Talk about projectionism! So, you see what we are up against? We do NOT refer for, or promote abortion in any way - ever. Yet we do want women to make an informed decision, not based on scare tactics about "fake clinics", but on actual facts. It is sad that we have had clients come in after going to P.P. to tell us that not only did they not get options counseling, they were told things meant to dissuade them from parenting! We are living in a strange time in a sin-soaked world. We have to take the chance of upsetting some who may not fully understand the Goliath we are up against in order to reach frightened young women and men who have been taught from birth that everything should be quick, easy and painless. We have to be the ones to tell them that it isn't, and shouldn't be. So yeah, if it takes using the "A" word in order to drive visits to our website where they'll be invited to get the truth, we're in. Because, 1 Cor. 9:22: "To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some."
