You may have seen or heard that Seven Days published an article titled, “Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers in VT Provide Misleading Information, Critics Charge.” It was also aired on WCAX with Darren Perron on Wednesday, July 27.
We want to share our thoughts and responses with our valued donors first. We value our constitutional right to freedom of speech: however, we do wish the article was more balanced and unbiased. We encourage our donors and friends to write to Seven Days Editors to share your thoughts and opinions regarding the good work we do! Our center is transparent regarding what we do and what we don’t do. We provide compassionate care in a safe environment for women to explore all of their options. All are welcome regardless of what they ultimately decide to do. Our exit surveys show a client satisfaction rate of 99%. Even women who have chosen abortion for a past pregnancy return to the center for a new pregnancy. We are a Pregnancy Resource Center, and with your help, we provide amazing, life-affirming support. Every client that choses life for her baby, returns to the center to tell us, “That was the best decision I ever made!” or “I can’t imagine my life without my baby!” Abortion is not the only answer to an unplanned pregnancy, and abortion clinics do not provide essential services to help families facing an unplanned pregnancy. Our free and compassionate services are grounded in our Christian faith. I shared some amazing client stories with Alison Novak. Instead, she chose to print about a gay college student in order to show us as homophobes. This client was treated with the same compassion and respect as all of our clients. He was seen by our LCSW, Holly and a new advocate, who confirmed the professional manner in which this client was served. This client was given a risk assessment and provided with STI information. He openly and willingly shared his personal information. One of the reasons we provide STI testing is for the opportunity to educate young people of their sexual risks. The information we use is taken directly from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control)—the same information that used to be taught in high school health class. What Alison reported was taken out of context. We do remind clients that the only 100% way to avoid STIs is with a life-long monogamous relationship. Even the CDC says that! Todays’ quote in my inbox was “The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth on them.” That was penned by journalist Ida Wells. That’s what we do here every day! I am honored to serve as the center Director. God has blessed me with an amazing staff and Board, but we can’t do this important work without you. If this is something you wish to discuss further, please give me a call. Many blessings to you, Deb View insights 0 post reach Like Comment Send
